grentperez covers ‘Yesterday Once More’ for Netflix’s ‘DANG!’

grentperez has put his own spin on The Carpenters’ 1973 classic “Yesterday Once More”, recorded for Netflix’s new animated comedy DANG!. The cover features on “DANG! (Soundtrack from the Netflix Series)” via Lakeshore Records, where it appears twice, in full and as an Erhu variation, and is now out as a standalone single.

I really enjoyed singing ‘Yesterday Once More’, for one it’s my mum’s favourite song, well one of them at least, so when I was presented with the opportunity, I took it in a heartbeat. It was fun, experimenting with different versions of the song, in a way a bit of a challenge when dealing with such a perfect, iconic track, so we had to tread ‘tastefully’ as to not take it too far away from the original.

Produced by Vinny, also known as 18YOMAN, the track features Oli Thorpe on guitar and pedal steel and Maina Doe on backing vocals, with a mix by Kieran “Kes” Beardmore and mastering by VIVID DID IT. It is a full-circle moment for grentperez, who first uploaded a bedroom cover of the song to YouTube five years ago as a thank-you to his early fans. Out now via Lakeshore Records on all platforms.
